SUSE 9.2, Gnome and X Crashing
I've been using Ubuntu for the past 6 months and so I've gotten fairly accustomed to the Gnome desktop. One thing I use my PC for is gaming and when it was mentioned that SUSE is a good distro for Cedega, I decided to give it a whirl.
I have installed SUSE 9.2 from a Linux Format magazine disk that I had and decided to go with Gnome since that is what I am accustomed to. Now it is pretty much a clean install and the only thing that I have changed is updated Firefox to 1.07, installed the latest (7676) nVidia drivers and installed ndiswrapper for my wireless network card.
I have been having some crashing problems though. Every once in a while Nautilus or Gnome-Panel will crash and it will pop up an error box. It doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason, it will just die.
The other thing is X-Windows will crash every so often. I have nView setup to spread my desktop across my two monitors and when X crashes the screens with just look like a jumbled mess of color and then they'll go black and after a few seconds it will drop me back at GDM to login. I can only assume it's X, because I never seen any dialog boxes and I have no idea what logs to look at. The worst occurance of this was once after it crashed I would log back in and as soon as everything loaded in Gnome it would crash again. It did this until I did a reboot. This also happened occasionally on my Ubuntu installation where my graphics drivers were ver. 7667, so I am worried that it may be a graphics card or driver problem.
I am currently downloading a copy of SUSE 10.0 that I may install if it can fix some problems, but I would like to know if anything like this is common and if there are any good fixes.
Thank you.
