I recently downloaded and installed suse 9.2 professional eval version. Is this the same as the personal version?

Whats my best option as i am a new starter in linux?

Hey Jordan,

Suse 9.2 Professional has been available on the mirrors for about a month now. I think the evaluation version has all the proprietary stuff in but runs out after a time whereas the ftp version has everything except the proprietary stuff and is available for free.

Suse is a good choice for starting in linux as are Mandrake and Fedora. Slackware is (and I have no experience here) supposed to be the best to learn linux with as it has the steepest learning curve. If you are just interested in something that is the most like XP then Xandros or Linspire are alternatives.

Sort of. Mandrake and Suse/Novell tend to release the ftp version a few weeks after release, Fedora is a community distribution and Red Hat base their enterprise line on much of the work done in it so this comes out afterwards. The first test release of Core 4 is due in three days.
On a wider perspective, because of the way linux is licensed, you can get any distribution whenever if you are willing to compile the source - most are happy to wait. Most linux magazines have a distribution on the cover each month.
Distrowatch is a good site to get an overall view. If you have bittorrent setup then use this to download Suse.

SuSE doesn't have a "personal" version any longer. If you're new to Linux and like SuSE, I'd highly recommend buying the boxed set at some point, reading thru the manuals and learning..
