Suse 9.1 & 9.2 Maintenance Repositories
 

Hi guys,

I Just wanted some info on the Suse Distribution.

Its my understanding that Each release (9.0, 9.1, 9.2, etc) has a 6 months support cycle.

Does that mean that after 6 months, you can't do an Online Update?


If this is the the case, is there something like the Fedora Legacy Project for the Suse Distros, where they provided updates (especially security updates)?

Does anyone know if they exist and if so, where are they....?


I Installed Suse 9.1 for my Grandfather a while ago...Haven't been back to his place in a while and I was just curious if I could do an Online Update on that Distro?


He doesn't like change that much so I really want to leave it.

If someone can give me info if these repositories exist, it would be appreciated!

Suse has a 6 month RELEASE cycle. They come out with a new version roughly every 6 months. I'm pretty sure they support all versions quite a bit longer than that, as 6 months of support would screw a lot of paying customers. Its possible that you only get 6 months of paid support when you purchase the product.

As far as updates and upgrades...those are all there, certainly back to 9.0. Simply keeping the same online repositories you used when first installing should be just fine for grabbing patches with YOU. And of course you can upgrade the whole distro at any time pretty easily using YAST.

How can you do a distro upgrade with yast?

I thought you could only do an apt-get distor-upgrade...?
