So I installed Suse 10.0. I love Linux. Used to use it back in the day but haven't used it in years. When I configure my display with yast it only detects the monitor. How can I config my file to detect the TV? And I have XFree86 and Xorg files in /etc. Which one am I supposed to config after one of you linux gurus tell me what needs to be added for detection of the TV?

Oh and I do have the latest nVIdia drivers.

Unfortunatly not all nvidia cards are equaly well supported.
I have a 6600 with tv-out but it also doesn't work.
My friend has an 4?00 and it does work..

Check the command nvidia-settings to configure your nvidia card. you can use nvtv for the tv function.

Could you please quantify Nvidia's bad reputation. My experience with an FX5200 has been very positive. It is true that some of those trying the CLI approach to driver installation have had issues. My success and ease of Nvidia install with YaST tells a different story. Perhaps my experience is unique but negative reports require justification to be considered as valid. Please show me the error of my experience with Nvidia.

Ok I am starting to hate linux, the whole time I have a ATI card people say get NVIDIA "cause it just works" now I read this and I installed the driver through YAST and have direct rendering but I do not have the gui for kde that lets me configure tv out.

So I modify xorg.conf again to get tv out now I can get the monitor back. The ati card was almost easier.

I can get direct rendering on monitor, but not on tv and cannot get the little nice gui in kde also tried to install nvtv w/yast and it does not even come up.

Why does everything suck
