SuSE 10 - error on startup

when i loaded up SuSE it failed to load X and gave me an error -->
----------

Caught Signal 11. Server aborting.

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
at http://wiki.X.Org
for help.
Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

----------
so i went into the log and looked and didnt see anything that i understood to help me. then i went into the xorg.conf and commented out all the input devices that referenced VNC
----------

#Section "InputDevice"
# Driver "rfbkeyb"
# Identifier "Keyboard[2]"
# Option "InputFashion" "VNC"
#EndSection

#Section "InputDevice"
# Driver "rfbmouse"
# Identifier "Mouse[3]"
# Option "InputFashion" "VNC"
#EndSection

# Option "httpdir" "/usr/share/vnc/classes"
# Option "httpport" "5900"
# Option "rfbauth" "/root/.vnc/passwd"

----------
after commenting those out, i attempted to launch X again and came up with a "no screens found" error.

any ideas?

The problem is almost certainly that your xorg.conf file is using settings that are not compatible with your monitor. Please indicate what exact monitor (make and model) you are using, undo the changes you made to xorg.conf, then post your xorg.conf file. That ought to get the ball rolling

here is my xorg.conf. i have a dell 1280x768 on a XPS M140. i have the intel 915gm for a graphics controller.

i rebooted and logged in as root and the gui worked fine. i think it malfunctioned because i was in a user account

Hmm - well, it might be the Modes section, which is empty.
Code:
Section "Modes"
Identifier "Modes[0]"
EndSection
For comparison, my xorg.conf shows the following (IBM T40, Radeon Mobility 7500, 1280x1024 max res)
Code:
Section "Modes"
  Identifier "Modes[0]"
  Modeline "800x600" 40.19 800 832 912 1024 600 601 604 623
  Modeline "800x600" 47.53 800 840 920 1040 600 601 604 626
  Modeline "1280x1024" 114.54 1280 1360 1496 1712 1024 1025 1028 1062
  Modeline "1280x1024" 117.45 1280 1368 1504 1728 1024 1025 1028 1062
  Modeline "1280x1024" 135.00 1280 1296 1440 1688 1024 1025 1028 1066 +HSync +VSync
  Modeline "1024x768" 65.00 1024 1040 1176 1344 768 770 776 806
EndSection
You might want to try adding the appropriate modelines to your xorg.conf file. Here's a helpful modeline generator

Also, just to clarify, are you saying that if you startx while root, everything works, but if you startx as your regular user it fails?
