Suse 10.1- No GUI Installation is a Mystery

I'm a little perturbed.

I recently purchased an all new system, and now I'm attempting to install Suse 10.1 on a Maxtor 120gb hard drive. I recieve no BIOS errors, no bootloader errors, and after selecting "Installation" or "Installation with Safe Mode", the same thing always happens:

I press ESC. I am given the scrolling text, and even get to the USB and IEEE activation. Immeadiately afterward, the screen flashes, and I am taken to a non-YaST, non-GUI installer.

This is a little upsetting to me. I am using an ATI X1900GT, and it's not the media. (I have a new X86_64 DVD, but my old cds provide the same error.) What's the problem, and if I may be so bold, how do I fix it?

EDIT: I'm going to try formatting the windows drive first, but I seriously doubt this is going to do anything at all.

well if text mode works, then this means that your yast has a problem with video setup.
I would finish installation in the text mode and then, configure the rest.

An Update

After trying it a few more times, I have realized that the problem doesn't lie in my video configuration. Rather, it lies in the fact that the installer does not detect my DVD drive even though it has in previous installations.

In text mode, I checked the System Information->Drives table to find that my IDE was not present, and I don't know why. It's very confusing for me, as all my HDDs (two 80s, a 120, JumpDrive, and iPod) were detected. I've tried several different installation settings, but until it detects my DVD-RW, I'm SOL.

Does anyone know how to fix this, or have had this probelm before? Help is appreciated; more details available upon request.
