SUSE 10.1 internet access
 

I have a dual-boot with WinXP but can go on line only with WinXP.
SUSE 10.1 says I'm "on line" but when I try to establish connection, i.e. novell, cnn, I'm told "cannot find the server." Would someone please define user name, password as they apply to either/or WinXP SUSE 10.1? Thank you so much.

define a user name?? what does that mean? :confused: you expect us to know some sort of magic password?

you need to actually tell us some useufl information here... what are you doing to connect? what hardware are you using? what software are you using, if any? what isp is it? what is the output of "/sbin/ifconfig"?

use kconnect to setup your DSL and Networkcard.
I am using suse 10.3 alpha 1 on my desktop, i need to do the setup and then reboot to get it done.

Thank you so much. I got the straight dope and am happy to say I can now connect to the Internet with SUSE 10.1, as well as WinXP.
1. Using my Linksys SR-4 router, I unplug the cable from the dsl modem to the eth0 card, reinsert into the WAN port of the router.
2. Connect a cable from the vacated eth0 card to one of the four ports on the router.
3. Following the instructions from Linksys, configure the router for (my)IP, using PPPoE.
4. On startup SUSE automatically "reads" the router gateway.
5. I now notice my internet connectin shows two icons: one, the original broadbannd, and two: a LAN. Thus my dual-boot becomes part of the network inclusive of the internet. I can access any on line program directly by merely picking the desktop icon.

I will look into that myself as I want Linux to do a PPPoE connection, instead of my modem doing it.

Why didn't you just setup a gateway address in yast? This normally resolves these kind of issues...
