Suse 10.1 config problems

Hi all,

I am completely new to the linux and therefore hope that I will find solution in this forum. I just install new Suse 10.1 on on my VMware workstation. Installation went smooth and Suse is running fine. My very first question is what packages should I include as a software install? I am planning to use it for programming. And also I would like to have some nice transparent desktop with that magic cube that I cannot find so far. My other problem is also that I cannot connect to the internet at all.
Can someone help me to find right direction?

Thanks for any help.

P.S. new to linux

I recommend that you install everything. It only takes about 6 GB and some hardware configurations make it (nearly) impossible to install more software off of the CDs after the system is running. You can still install software off of the Internet though.

As for the network card you should start YaST. Click on the Network Devices entry in the left hand column. Then click on Network Card in the right hand column. That will provide a wizard to set up your network card.

Thanks! I will also install everything as you suggested (plenty of room for that). As far as XGL goes would you happend to know if it works fine with VMware workstation?

Thanks again,

I haven't worked with VMWare yet. SuSE 10.1 comes with Xen. I think it's a virtualizing hypervisor like VMWare. I haven't tried Xen yet either so I don't really know anything about it.
