SuSE 10.0 XMMS opens but will not play files
SUSE 10.0 + KDE 3.4
I installed XMMS using YAST and updated all the files for it including dependancies. When I dbl click on an MP3, the XMMS Play Files dialog opens. If i select a file in the list, XMMS player shows but plays nothing. No files are in the playlist editer either. If i add a file using the playlist editor, again the Play Files dialog opens but i still cannot get a file into the playlist. Even if i click and drag a file directly into the player, it will not play it. Its almost like the path is getting lost. |
You will need to re-install a different version of xmms. The SuSE version doesn't support playing MP3s. If you go to the http://rpm.pbone.net web site, you can search for xmms. Filter your search for SuSE10 and Other. The packman source is what you want.

re
wow it never occured to me that XMMS out of the box might not play MP3s
Im shocked. Thanks for the tip :D |
hi!
with a few steps you'll get your xmms to work.. search in g**gle and install: xmms-1.2.10-79.pm.1.x86.rpm (or something like that..version is what matters..) lame-3.96.1.x86.rpm xmms-lib-mad-1.2.10-79.pm.1.x86.rpm I think you can get all these in packman gurulabs.com.if not, search in g**gle... and your suse will play .mp3, .ogg, etc etc.. i could send you these packages myself, but I have them for 64bit system, not for 32bit (presuming your system is 32bit only..lol) reguards, Rubber :-} |
This is weird
I installed the pacman version for suse 10.0 It still does the same thing as before. I tried putting an audio CD in and using XMMS to play it. The playlist loads and XMMS starts to play the music but no sound. I know the sound works because amarok works perfectly. I just like XMMS better (when it works  |
