Arrow SuSE 10.0: xmms issues

Hi all. I recently installed SuSE 10.0 and I must say I like it. But I'm having several issues regardnig xmms: first: when I try to play a cd it doesn't play anything at all (it makes as if it was playing but doesn't play anything at all). I tried changing the output plugins but it didn't work (BTW, there's no arts output plugin, which is what I'm looking for since I'm on KDE). Second: xmms doesn't play mp3's. I know this must have been answered lots of times here, but I used the forum's search function and it seems to be broken.

Also, is there a SuSE faq, or post install instructions, or something like that??

Thanks in advance.

You have to install the multimedia packages in YAST to get mp3's to play. I can't remember the exact name of the packages, but it's something like kde-multimedia. Also, you'll probably want the w32allcodec package or whatever it's called for video codecs. This stuff can't be included in Suse for legal reasons I would guess. As for the cd not playing, I'm not sure if that's a problem that will be fixed by installing the multimedia packages or not, but it can't hurt.

Thumbs up

Done! I configured the libcdaudio plugin to play digitally and cd's sound now. As for the mp3's issue, I installed the xmms-lib-mad package and now I can play mp3's. Thanks for your help.
