SUSE 10.0 sound issues

I've got a IBM Thinkpad T20 and i've installed SUSE Linux 10.0 (was going to install FC4, but it wouldnt install fully). I managed to get SUSE to install and to run, but I noticed that i dont have any sound. I've tried the usual suspects (of all of the threads i looked at.)

The sound card is correctly identified within YAST.
When tested within YAST, it plays just fine.
But otherwise, it's like not having a sound card.

Any ideas on where to go from here?

You might have one of the mixer controls muted. I cannot recall the path to get to it, but I fixed a similar problem I had by playing around with the mixer application.

Suse 10 and Audio problems

Hi Dissman

I am having the same problems. I have to fiddle with YAST to get it to recognise my sound card or run alsaconf from the command line.
However even after this I have no sound except from the cdrom drive. If I try to play an mp3 file in Amarok it crashes. Xine will play
my dvd's buy without sound.

Do you know of any diagnostic tools which I can use to try to solve the problem?
