SuSE's less(1) is always case insensitive: how to disable?

SuSE's less(1) program is tailored so that searches are ALWAYS case-insensitive. How to disable this? This default setting is not found in /etc/lesskey. Nor did I alias less to 'less -I' or 'less -i' . This is sometimes bothersome!

I am using SuSE 9.2 on a Pentium M machine.

To my embarassment --- the customization is in the shell variable 'LESS': It's '-M -I' by default. Set it to '-M' and it will not be case sensitive.
