Hmmm
is it possible to just delete all partitions (except windowsXP) then reinstall linux ?

Sure. Any regular installation disk should allow you to do that.

....deleted the partions ok but windows now wont boot...instead it arrives at a screen with GNU GRUB on it (posting from a library here!)

Linux also wont re-install as the installation disc now seems to have an error on it despite it being scratch free and spotless


any ideas ?

also resized windows with qtparted but still wont boot ,all data seems to be intact tho...

Took drastic action and reisntalled windows...all is well (for now)

Next time, you should really find a local LUG guy to give you direct assistance. Forum help can be pretty slow for tasks of this size.
