Sound Problems in SuSE 9.3

Thought I'd share a solution with the rest of the community.
I've just upgraded from SuSE 9.1 to 9.3. The installation went well except I had no soun d from my CMI8738 card.
I had had no problem with 9.1.

The CD player worked, and the computer beep worked but I could play no sound files or mp3's etc. When I tried to turn the sound up I got a loud buzzing sound which was still there on reboot until I turned the volume down. I tried installing the card using alsaconf to no avail.

Eventually I found this link: http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2004/0..._kdenoise.html

This relates to a perminent noise in SuSE 9.1. I followed the instructions carefully and it solved my problem. (It has something to do with kdemultimedia3-mixer.rpm).

I thought I'd post this as I spent 4 weeks looking for a solution & didn't want anyone else doing the same.

Thanks
