"skipped services in runlevel 5"; stuck in command mode; init 5 fails
GoBook III using openSUSE 10.3
Boots up and runs through green screen as runlevel 5, but at end presents just command line. So I input "init 5" and stays the same; input "init 3" and switches to runlevel 3, but then "init 5" again and screen shows "switching to runlevel 5", but again presents just the root (red) command line.
In the post info, about when should get runlevel 5 screen, there is "could not find dashboard files in '/etc/moomps' and instructions to please check following files (see /var/adm/rpmconfigcheck): /etc/local/time,rpmnew and /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc, rpmnew
A little further on get;
Master Resource Control: runlevel 5 has been reached
then:
Skipped services in runlevel 5: boot.clock irq_balancer xend
then:
Welcome to opensuse 10.3 (i586)-kernel2.6.22.18-0.2-default (tty1)
then:
Login and all remains in command mode
Sorry for delay in reply, but need to get to library to post.
In /var/log/Xorg.0.log got as likely only relevant items: AIGLX disabled
Primary Device is: PCI 01:00:0
(EE) No devices detected
Fatal server error: no screens found
When I try to start Firefox via command line get: "no display specified"
For syslog got over 4 thousand possibles listed under 88 major files -- no idea where to look.
In /var/log/messages got two message lines in RED, with those being next 2nd & 3rd lines:
kernel:device-mapper:multipath round-robin: version 1.0.0 (loader?)
kernel:device-mapper:table: 253:0: multipath: error getting device
kernel:device-mapper:ioctl: error adding target to table
Would seem to be a problem with the device-mapper, but have no idea what to do to correct it. Further suggestions most welcome.
