Simple Gimp Question, but I can't find answer

a simple question ... but have googled for days without answer probably because it is too easy to get someone to even mention

looking at the snapshot, i had accidently closed/deleted the dialog that is located directly below and INSIDE the blank frame).

i can open up many dialogs but just cannot get them go into the blank frame.

so bascailly that space is being wasted? odd, that'll be a small gtk2 usage bug... i'd say just nuke ~/.gimp2 (~/.gimp-2.0 ?) and start again...
