Share a disk with BOTH Linux and Windows

I'm still a little confused by some networking.

If I have a Linux server and want to share say a Disk with both LINUX and WINDOWS users on a network can I do something like the following

1) enable Linux users to access it (read write) via NFS server on the server
2) enable Windows users to access it also for Read Write via SAMBA.

I assume it's possible as loads of servers do handle "Mixed" Linux and Windows connections.
Does the standard software handle all the file conversions or does something else need to be installed. -- I'm sure on the Linux Client machines they have to be set up as NFS clients while the Windows will just be able to get at the SAMBA shares without problems by just "Map Network Drive" or whatever.

Cheers

nfs and samba will operate fine in total isolation. they do not need to know the other exists at all. wgat do mean by conversion?? files will always be stored on a linux filesystem in the server.

Thanks -- It's working great now --and the Linux file permissions really do stop Windows Users hosing up / putting files all over the place.

There's a bit of a Learning Curve on this stuff but at least it's do-able whereas with Windows it's all hidden (or you have to get some mega expensive help with Microsoft Server).

By "File Conversion" I meant the Windows system has presumably to make the Networked disks seem just like other Windows Disks for the Windows Users even though the data is actually stored on the Linux file server.

Cheers
