Screen resolution & Refresh rate
I just installed SUSE 10.1, and the maximum [the only, if I'm being precise :)] refresh rate is 60Hz@1280*1024. But as I'm using a CRT monitor, 75Hz is a necessity. You would think it's a graphic card problem (I.E. being uncapable of displaying such mode)... but with WinXP and even SUSE 10.0, I could display 75Hz@1280*1024 without any problems.
So... is there a way of setting the resolution to the desired mode, even if the gui says it's not possible? |
Check if the installed monitor allows 75Hz. Some generic settings do not allow higher frequencies.

Yeah.. that was maybe a part of the problem; in YaST I configured a monitor that does not allow such mode, because mine was not listed and I chose the most similar one (IBM G70 instead of G78). Now it's set to 1280*1024@75Hz, from the ->VESA submenu. But I still can get as high as 66Hz :/

Have a look at you monitors manual and enter the frequencies manually.
|
But how can I do that?
Yep.. I'm a newbie, allright  |
Start Yast -> Hardware -> Graphics Card and Monitor
Select "Change" at the "Monitor" line, then select the "Sync Frequencies" tab and enter the frequencies you found in you monitors manual. It may help as well to enter the monitor dimensions in the "Display Size" tab. |
It works fine.
Thanks ;) |
I just recently had this same problem. kinda odd that it seemed "incomplete" on a newer version, huh?
