Resolution in KDE and other issues

I just installed Suse 9.1 Personal. It's one of the best distro's I've seen yet (excellent balance of user-friendliness and power), but I do have a few problems with it. The first thing is the video resolution. Both before and after installing the newest nVidia drivers (which went without a hitch), whenever I up the resolution to 1280x1024, it simply doesn't seem to be that high of a resolution. Icons, text, windows, the cursor--everything isn't as small as it normally is in this resolution and I can't find anywhere to adjust most of these things. I don't know if it's just not going to the right resolutions or if I'm just being picky. I didn't think it would be a big deal, but I find it quite annoying not having much room for all the stuff I want to be doing. 1280x1024 looks about like 1024x786 usually does in all other Linux installs I've done, and more, hmm, proprietary distros I'm forced to use at times until I get a hardware modem .

Another HUGE problem I have is that I literally can not install any RPM packages. The usualy command line switches to install don't do anything, and in Konqueror it's set to run RPMs with YAST, which simply brings up YAST with a list of packages from the CDs to install or uninstall. I can't figure out how to do this, which is again a HUGE drawback obviously. Any replies are deeply appreciated.

Oh yeah, by the way USB device auto-mounting rocks.

Have you tried to select your monitor and adjust it in sax2? I'm not sure I understand the rpm problem. If you are downloading rpm's, make sure they are for your version of SuSE. You can just cd / into the download directory and run yast -i rpmfilename from konsole.

If you're using KDE, you might also consider using KPackage to install your RPM's. Some people prefer that over the command line. -- J.W.
