Repair function not possible for SUSE 10.3

Hi everybody,

I have encountered a very strange problem. It is not possible to start the Repair" function from SuSE 10.3 installation DVD.

It happened after I installed SUSE 10.3 on my comp. I had to repair the system with my installation DVD. When i click on the repair option all it did was a reboot of the system. I found out that the only possibility was the "Update from the web". Only then the computer is not rebooting (and of course the install option too). Is there somebody who faced the same problem and who succesfully repaired it???:study:

Hi

I got the same problem but haven't found a solution yet after a week.

The repair function on the installation media is known to be broken. See this bug for details (they claim to have fixed it in some way).

Novell/openSUSE would need to issue a minor release for 10.3 to fix this since the problem is in the media (iso). It appears that a reinstall is the only option for now.

Yep, they fix it with a patch to the YaST Boot Loader for the installed system but of course that does nothing for the Repair Installation system on the DVD, which is broken due the the YaST Boot Loader on the DVD being buggy somehow.

If the problem is only a Grub situation, something like the SuperGrub cd can repair Grub for you, after which you can boot into your OpenSUSE and use the Online Update patched YaST Boot Loader to reinstall the OpenSUSE Grub.

But if something is messed up besides Grub on your system the only option is a reinstall.

Funny thing. They broke this with a last minute upgrade just before the GM final was made.

Thus far, they have no intention of making a point release. Maybe they can be convinced to release a cd with the System Repair function on it that we can download and burn it for emergencies.

It's about the worst possible place for a bug in the works, something that can't be fixed with a patch since it's on the installation media.

manually fix

well ,you could always describe your problem to us
there may be a manual way to fix the problem you're having
reinstalling is usually unnecessary
