Radeon x1200 audio

Having sound problems with my new Asus P2. I am running SUSE 10.3 updated to kernel 2.6.22.18-0.2.

Running hwinfo --sound I get...

29: PCI 105.2: 0403 Audio device
[Created at pci.301]
UDI: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_1002_7919
Unique ID: dP62.Z4p2VAWz7L7
Parent ID: vSkL.HjQnVRFuoa8
SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:05.2
SysFS BusID: 0000:01:05.2
Hardware Class: sound
Model: "ASUSTeK Radeon X1200 Series Audio Controller"
Vendor: pci 0x1002 "ATI Technologies Inc"
Device: pci 0x7919 "Radeon X1200 Series Audio Controller"
SubVendor: pci 0x1043 "ASUSTeK Computer Inc."
SubDevice: pci 0x8287
Memory Range: 0xfe9e8000-0xfe9ebfff (rw,non-prefetchable)
IRQ: 10 (no events)
Module Alias: "pci:v00001002d00007919sv00001043sd00008287bc04sc03i00"
Config Status: cfg=no, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown
Attached to: #10 (PCI bridge)

But when I try to configure with Yast it tells me...

An error occurred during the installation of

Radeon X1200 Series Audio Controller

The kernel module snd-hda-intel for sound support could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters including IO or IRQ parametrs.

I also ran into problems following the Asus supplied method of installing the driver when it told me I had to use the same version of GCC as that used to compile my kernel 2.6.22.18-0.2. Not the one available on my installation (I upgraded).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure Radeon X1200 is a audio controller?...(ATI makes a graphics card by that name for laptops): check pci id

#su
#modprobe snd-hda-intel

You may need special options for your audio controller. See the alsa page

Well hwinfo --sound reports... Model: "ASUSTeK Radeon X1200 Series Audio Controller" so I assume it is correct.

Solution...

Downloaded the source for alsa-driver-1.0.17, alsa-lib-1.0.17, and alsa-utils-1.0.17 from the ALSA home page. Compiled alsa-driver-1.0.17 as root with...

./configure --with-cards=hda-intel
make
make install

and the alsa-lib-1.0.17 and alsa-utils-1.0.17 as root with the usual

./configure
make
make install

...in that order. Rebooted, ran alsaconf as root then alsamixer as user.

Now have sound.

Unfortunately I cannot get sound from my microphone to Skype or krecord although I can hear it on my speakers and headphones.

Could someone explain what the following repeated error message means?

ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:01:05.2 disabled
ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:00:14.2 disabled
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:14.2[A] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 17
hda_codec: Unknown model for ALC883, trying auto-probe from BIOS...
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:01:05.2[B] -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 19
hda-intel: Invalid position buffer, using LPIB read method instead.

Thanks.
