Question for 'Beryl' users

First of all, I just installed all of the required packages and it just blows away the normal xgl desktop effects. I have been playing with it for about 2 hours now. I have a couple of questions:

1. How can I configure beryl to be the default window manager upon bootup? Or is this not a good idea?

2. Is there a way to get back the normal login screen, where it listed users that you could just click on, then enter the passwords. Since installing, the login screen has changed to where I need to type in my username then password. No listing of users is shown. I've tried to change it in the KDE control center, but it doesn't take

3. Is there a way to do away with the grey splash screens at startup?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Got number one figured out. still working on 2 and 3

re: #2 have you installed xgl? if not it will resolve this, but using xgl takes way more cpu then pure Nvidia rendering.

I've a thread on this on another forum but so far no solution

Hi Google. I do have xgl installed, the login screen changed only after installing Beryl. I just can't understand why the login screen would be different. It has to be an easy fix somewhere, for an experienced user. The grey screens don't bother me too much, but I have 3 user accounts setup on this machine and I would just love to have the normal login screen back listing the users. I am still investigating. Drop in on this thread again if you find anything.

Thanks !

what is yast-> system -> /etc/sysconfig/editor -> window manager -> default_wm ? I think maybe you got gdm instead of kdm. You should also lookd at the -> displaymanager sttings

You are exactly right. When I first set up the xgl on my system, the suse page told me to do:

edit your /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager and set the DISPLAYMANAGER="gdm".

So I went back in and changed it back to kde,

Got my normal login screen back !!!
