Question about cup

Wait a moment... need to stop head from spinning... just tried to read CUPS manual.... ahh... there.... that's better.

Trying to access CUPS http://localhost:631 - it's asking for username and password, even when I log in as root.

Is there a quick explanation to this dilemma?

Thanks

My terminology my not be correct but;
what you are logging into is the cups print server
so
just enter root and your root password
You can set up cups from kde also
just go to control panel -> printing -> admin mode (important)
then the setup should start

It doesn't work in Suse. If you visit the CUPS site, they're not partucularly complimentary!
You need to <quote>:

1) Goto /etc/cups/cupsd.conf

2) Change in <Location /admin> the AuthType:
AuthType Basic
3) Change RunAsUser to No

Restart CUPS (sod the manual, I rebooted) and log in with the normal root -> password.

HTH

Thanks, I'll have a try at that.
