Processes on startup

Hi,

I wanted to know what is typical for startup on a SuSE 10.0 System running KDE 3.5.0 (Level "a").

I just wanted to understand more on linux's boot sequense etc. I am kind of a newbie, so feel free to explain any processes, here is the output from just a regular ps command.

6788 pts/0 00:00:00 bash
6802 pts/0 00:00:00 ps

I know this is quite different from the top command since those show processes that are using CPU / Mem etc.

Some of the things I had the most questions on are:

kio_http, kio_file, why konqueror (starts, but no window opens), I know why kopete, and amarokapp, akregator, and all those other common ones are on there, but wanted to know about the kio's and mingetty.

Any info would be great. Thanks.

I think that mingetty runs the text-console, which you can access with Alt+F1-6 (or Ctrl+Alt+F1-6, if from graphical mode).

Update

I have checked the processes on my system using the more fancy output of ksysguard. I found that konqueror is preloaded (probably to speed it up) and the kio processes shows access of kdeinit to certain files or cached webpages. The output of ksysguard shows which. Since you are using superkaramba, you may have some http files that provide content for your desktop (explaining kio_http). I also recognized that some of these connections remain open after I closed konqueror.
