Angry problems installing software

as a newbee im getting realy frustrated when trying to install software.
Ive given up trying to install using commands, and am now using good old rpm files.
however when i install using yast i get the following problems.
m player for example.
cant install because it needs this programme and this programme to run.
so i download the other software and guess what that also needs other software and that needs other software. i just seem to be going round in circles and then forget what i have actually installed.
is this normal under linux.
and is there an easier way of doing it

Yes use the apt - synaptic programs or YaST2.. They will solve the dependencies.

I almost forgot to add the link for APT and SYNAPTIC:

APT for SuSE

Good luck
