Problem with Gnome Access
 

I am a Linux newbie and recently successfully installed Suse Linux Professional 9.3. Now, I can't access Gnome as a desktop. KDE comes up as default. I tried installing the rpm file for Gnome and still no luck. I wonder if I am not doing the install right or if there is some other way to access Gnome, in addition to KDE? Thanks.

I've never used SUSE before, so, I 'cant really probe on how to get GNOME installed completely. But, just curious, how did you install GNOME and how many RPMs did you install?

If GNOME is correctly and completely installed, then you should see it in the main Login/KDM/GDM/XDM screen (Session menu/button).

Unfortunately, Gnome doesn't appear as a boot option, never did.

KDE access
 

I guess I have a similar question, though in reverse.

I installed Suse 10 using the net install (which was awesome and saved me from burning a few cds). Anyway, during the install I chose Gnome as my desktop as that is what I am used to. Now, I want to mess around with the KDE desktop, but I don't see that as an option under the sessions option on the GDM login screen.

I do see a couple others (though I can't remember them right now...they're some of the low resource using ones). Yast shows that KDE base is installed...so...what else do I need??

Yast --> Software Management...

Though KDE Base was installed, KDM (kdebase3-kdm) was not. I believe I also had to install KDE session (kdebase3-session).
