problem with ati driver installer

Hi folks, I am trying to install a new ATI driver on my system (SUSE 10.3). I cant. The following message appears when I try:

riba:/home/bgorjup/bin # ati-driver-installer-8-3-x86_64.run
bash: ati-driver-installer-8-3-x86_64.run: command not found
riba:/home/bgorjup/bin #

help will be appreciated.

In the directory where the ati file is in, do this:

Code:

sh ati-driver-installer-8-3-x86_64.run

I installed that d**n driver. When rebooting, I got a blank screen after text mode, before login. I tried to enter into sax2 to change the display configuration but I could not. Nothing worked (F4 etc). I had to reinstall OS. Do not know what went wrong???

You might try in the failsafe mode to start up yast
and then monitor and graphic card.
It will probe again the monitor and graphic card.
If it oke save it
Some times it works

all the best

I did try failsafe mode too. No success.

Delete the drivers you just installed and then try installing using yast. Add the ati site to yast's installation source.

Now open up yast and search for fglrx and then click on "fglrx default" something like that and then install that and also the X11 drivers for 3d which will show up on the search also.

When it's done, go to root, type init 3 to go to console only, no gui.

Go to root again, type sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx(You probably tried that earlier)

Hopefully sax2 will start and you can configure it and reboot again.

ATI cards are a pain to get 3d working sometimes. I have one on my system also.

Hope this works out for you.
