I have recently upgraded my system from Suse 9.1 to 9.2. All seemed to work fine, except for the the fact the now the fortran compiler (which I really need, and that worked well in 9.1) is no more available.
I have tried to figure out the problem, and I discovered that Suse 9.2 use gcc ver. 3.3.4.... The fact is that in the CD version (5 cd), which I used for the upgrade, there is apparently no fortran compiler (gcc-g77) for this version of gcc . Even on the Suse FTP website there is still the gcc-g77 for the "old" gcc ver. 3.3.3-41.
Can anyone help me to understand what could I do to make the fortran compiler work again on my SUSE 9.2? Should I try to "downgrade" gcc to the old version? I would try but I wonder if it can be a troublesome procedure...
One problem you might have is if you bought/downloaded the personal version of 9.2; it does not include the compilers on the disks. In this case, you will need to download them.
Re: Problem in running g77 after the upgrade to 9.2
Try the DVD (DVD 1) I think. SuSE 9.2 Pro has a lot of additional packages on the DVD which were omitted off the CD set. If you don't have a DVD drive, you can use a laptop or some other machine that has a DVD drive and run YaST by pointing it to a network drive which is the DVD. I didn't actually do this. I copied all the "extra" RPMS off the DVD onto my hard drive and manually installed them.

P.S. The list of "missing" RPMS is too long to include here. However, I've put up the list here (DVD CD diff in SuSE 9.2 Pro). I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the list. Heads should roll at SuSE/Novell over this gaffe.
