printing unauthorized?? Suse 11.0rc problem?

Hi,

I'm really confused on this. I set up my suse 11.0rc box the other day and I'm trying to understand why when I try and print I get told "error printing" which ends up in the log as "unauthorized printing". I set up printing in the same way I did for 10.3. The printer prints to the network M$ 2003 print server fine if I'm on the "manage printing" and logged in as root, ie I can print test pages.

Any ideas,

I googled and I couldn't fine much.

Sounds like you need to give the normal user permission to use the network printer. Suse installs documentation (system admin and user) in /usr/share/doc/manual. You might find the answer there.

Thanks. I looked through the documentation and it didn't talk about using the CUPS server web interface, only the YaST one. So I deleted the printers in the YaST interface and then remade them. A note to those who may have the same problem as I did, the hostname and workgroup isn't import into the link propertly in the YaST interface. It ends up looking like

smb://home.ad.uni.edu/hostname/printer
which it shouldn't be
smb://hostname.home.ad.uni.edu/printer :)

hope it helps :D
