Poll: Yast Package Manager vs. Smart Package Manager in 10.1
I have not yet decided to waste my time messing with this install after seeing all of these problems popping up, and I just have to ask. I read somewhere that most of the problems associated with 10.1 all stem from a screwed up version of Yast, so the Smart Package Manager was invented to patch things up. I would just as soon download 10.0, however, most of us want the latest, greatest of anything, right, even if one little module of such importance came out so wrong. Is this really the one common thread of most of the problems with 10.1?

Where is the actual poll? I have been using YAST, but its so slow and sometimes configuring repos does not always work properly. SMART and yum are good alternatives, so give them a try.

Having been introduced to yum with FC and Ubuntu, I have to say that it is pretty good. And if you want a graphical version you can install yumex.

Yum was one of the things I hated about Fedora Core, it was as slow as yast but maybe it's improved since then.
I have used smart for the first time with suse 10.1 and I think it's great. Having said that, I just screwed up my system after an upgrade but as long as you pay attention to what is being removed (I wasn't paying attention) there should be no problems. |
