Planet Penguin Racer freezes with ATI fglrx driver

Hi,
I've got an ATI Radeon 9550 running with the ATI fglrx binary blobs.

I've been trying to get Planet Penguin racer to run on several distros besides openSUSE 10.2 (which I currently use). The game loads fine, but near the end of a level my entire computer freezes. Neither the mouse, keyboard or video card respond. The only thing that works fine is the sound. :). This has happened ever since I upgraded my video card from a PCI Radeon 9200SE.

The card is an AGP model and my system is and AMD Sempron 2300 @ 1.58ghz. The motherboard is a MSI running the VIA chipset.

I was wondering if it's the binary blobs or the hardware that is causing the freezing issue on every distro I've used.

The odd thing is that all the other 3d games I've tried (Alien Arena 2006 & 2007, Chromium BSU) work fine. Beryl and XGL run without a hitch either.

What destroys me is having beryl enabled and trying to watch hardware-accelerated video. Wont work. Just blank screen with the occasional flicker.

I found that the homebrew ATi drivers worked better. Try removing the official driver and installing the homebrew driver.
