Can i install linux i586 in my laptop pentium 4 ht?

Yep, of course you can. The extension i586 refers to pentium 4 plus some other characteristics. Read this and find the adequate one for your system:

Definitely. "i586" is the Pentium processor, and anything that runs on a pre-Pentium 4 should run on a Pentium 4, even though it won't use the hyperthreading (correct me if I'm wrong).

Essentially every PC that you can find nowadays are at least i686 (Pentium Pro and higher).

x86 is the whole family of Intel processors from the 8086 to the Pentium 4, while "i586" refers only to the Pentium processor (some call it the Pentium 1).

Linux 64 bit or i586 for pentium 4 ht
 
if I install Linux i586 in a Laptop pentium 4 ht I will not have problems, or i must install linux 64 bits
