out of range pc display settings correct?

i got a problem ,i downloaded ubuntu 8.10,i copleted the installation and reboot the system
to coplete, when the pc open the ubuntu started to loading, after that i got a message from the screen and not the system ...

Out Of Range

PC DISPLAY SETTINGS CORRECT?

after this message the screen goes at sleep mode (not excactly its like a sleep mode on the screen and not the computer) and nothing more and response only if i press a button on the screen,

my monitor is a hitachi cm715 . is a kind of old ,but so far was worked just fine.

i dont know if the fault is from the windows analize ,becuase i 1280x1024 at 85hertz, i dont know if this is the fault or something else,i cant log in at ubuntu and i dont know what to do to fix this problem, and i am new at linux as well.. plz help me.

Thanks!

Sometimes it helps if you turn the power off and remove the power cord from the PC and from the monitor when changing video drivers. Allow 20 seconds to elapse before plugging the power cords back into the equipment. That will allow enough time for capacitors in the equipment to discharge.

Please post a print out of your xorg.conf file. Its usually in /etc/X11/

Actually you won't be having anything much in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

You need to add a monitor section with modelines.

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor"
Vendorname "Hitachi"
Modelname "Hitachi CM715"
Horizsync 31.0-95.0
Vertrefresh 50.0-120.0
modelines ....<generate and put them here>
Gamma 1.0
Option "DPMS" "true"
EndSection

Change Screen section to use this "Monitor" and not "Configured Monitor"
You will also need a subsection Display in Section Screen

Boot into recovery mode.

Fix x server. You will get some graphical desktop, then copy /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Post your xorg.conf file here and then somebody can help you.

For wireless start a new thread after taking a look at the Ubuntu wiki

#man iwlist
