OSuse 10 won't mount cd and hangs whole system

Hi I have a fresh installation of openSuSE 10, I have been using it since two weeks ago and I am very happy with the improvements with respect to 9.1 and some applications I am using for the first time.

Today I wanted to hear a music cd and have experienced a problem with different players (kscd, xmms) . When the players begin to launch (that's what I guess because I only see the hard drive working), just after some seconds the whole system hangs and there is no other way to bring it back than rebooting.

Then if I try to read a data cd, it does not hang but Konqueror never shows its contents and the cd spins and spins and...

I was already used to the mount/unmount manual way and now it is confusing for me with this version because I do not see how to control that.

Does someone knows what is happening? how can I make the system read my cd's.

Thanks, Juan.

Hello!

Please post the entries in /var/log/war and /var/log/messages (the entries have a timestamp) before you want to hear the audio cd.

Greetings

Strange!
I too use suse 10.0,
it will autodetect and automount Data CD, prompts you to play audio CD etc.
I think it could be your hardware problem.
I did experience Linux OS crash due to bad sectors on HDD.
Probably you can reformat and reinstall everything.

Hi thanks for the answer,
I am working on an Inspiron 8100 laptop from dell . About the formating I think it is not the case since I installed suse two weeks ago, actually I was working with suse 9.1 but I had a strange partition scheme and I did format the whole hard drive to get rid of it.

This is what I get in the log, I hope this is not too much, however since I do not know the consequences of a lot of these messages (actually I do not even know any rules on post size) I prefered not to edit it so you could have an idea of the whole boot process. I hope this helps to understand what is happening on my pc:
