OSuSE 10.2 & Nvidea install proceedure?
OSuSE 10.2. ASUS W7J laptop (Nvidea GeForce 7400)
Need to install Nvidea driver. http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._1.0-9631.html Instructions say switch into "init 3" then "rmmod nvidia" to unload kernal module. Then start Yast. http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-...ler-HOWTO.html In console rmmod command does not find kernel module nvidea -for some reason. Skip the rmmod command? Any problem with this? Need this working for 3d and projector. Desktop Linux has arrived. 10.2 is excellent. Lance |
Check this out, the article discusses nvidia on suse 10.2...http://www.softwareinreview.com/cms/content/view/60

Not to be rude or "Captain Obvious" or anything...
I noticed you consistently spelled "nvidia" wrong in your post. Are you spelling it right when you execute the rmmod? Just a thought, J |
Suse 10.2/ Geforce 7400 driver install config
Thanks. Liked this article very much
http://www.softwareinreview.com/cms/content/view/60 Is it best to run nvidea installer with no GUI or in Yast/Gnome? Tried previously with Yast/Gnome and crashed xorg. Able to add nvidea sources no problem and choose for install Worried the next install attempt might crash xorg like previous. Safest clear cut way? Spelling issue? See below: lance:/home/lance # rmmod nvidia ERROR: Module nvidea does not exist in /proc/modules Very impressed with 10.2 just need to perfect. |
Problem solved with Nvidia driver and GeForce Go 7400-
Problem solved. Just followed procedure on Open Suse page
http://en.opensuse.org/HCL/Video_Cards. XGL working for 3d. Beautiful! Flipping the XGL desktop around is pretty cool. No overheating problems from Video card! Also sound working with Intel HD 82801 G Played too many mind games this time. SuSE 10.2 is incredible. I have tried many versions since 1997. Linux has arrived as a desktop. |
