opensuse need kernel 2.6.16.46-0.12-smp

Hi,

I need an opensuse with the kernel version 2.6.16.46-0.12-smp

The latest kernel is at 2.16.22 I think... I was wondering if 10.1 or 10.2 might ship with 2.6.16?

Please advise.

Also should I decide to change the kernel of say 10.3 to a lower version, say from kernel version 2.16.22 to 2.16.16 is that advisable? What might be a possible alternative way to get a suse with the kernel version I need?

Thanks in advance!

Edmund

An easy way of finding out what kenrnel version opensuse is running is to go to a mirror server and browse for the package name.

http://212.219.56.146/sites/ftp.open....13-4.i586.rpm

http://212.219.56.146/sites/ftp.open....2-34.i586.rpm

inspection of teh above packages shows that Suse Linux 10.1 has the closest kernel (2.6.16.13-4), very slightly older than you ideal version. In my experience it's better to upgrade than downgrade. 10.1 is actually the version of suse that I use and I find it very good apart from the automatic updates (plenty of talk in these forum about that subject)

Thanks =) I was away for exams hence the lag.

I did manage to find the version I need and apparently it is 10.1 =P I got it off the novell site though and it had some subscription thingie.

I agree, 10.1 looks quite good =)
