Hi, I tried to install openSUSE 10.0 today and encountered this problem:
At the stage of the installation where it checks for updates at the internet SUSE couldn't connect to the internet, stating that dhcp client is aready in use or something like that.
When I checked the network setting in YAST the network interface card was configured correctly as far as i could see(receive configuration over DHCP), but it seemed to have no IP address.
Under MEPIS i never had this problem with internet, so i would be glad if someone can point out the problem to me and of course a solution would be even better
FWIW Nimrod_NiT,
I have the exact same problem with OSS 10.0..I am on cable thru a linksys 4port router/sw..9.2 works,9.3 works online but no matter what I try 10.0 will not connect..
I really think it's buggy...So far no one has been able to help so I guess I have to give up on it and go back a few versions..9.3 works online but but cannot print from my parrallel port printer..
9.2 is the only one that works in everything for me..
good luck to you,
jolphil
if it's really a bug it has to do something with the DHCP Client, but i really don't know what "DHCP Client is already running" indicates. Question is what should've started it and why can't SUSE access it?
How can I submit this bug to the developers in a form that they can do something with?
10.0 connects fine for me. I have a cable modem in front of a Netgear WiFi router and an ethernet connection from the PC to the router. DHCP works fine for me -- all configurations were defaults other than to tell SuSE to access the internet over the LAN.
Hi again,
If you guys want to hear something strange about my DHCP problem encountered here...
I even did an FTP install on 10.0 and all installed well, but when the installer got to configuring the DHCP..It Failed to connect !!!!How does one figure that out? It connected to the internet to install packages but failed to configure for connecting to the internet afterward????...Oh well
