OpenSUSE 11.1 upgrade

I started this thread to get information about the new upcoming 11.1 version of OpenSUSE. I am using 11.0 and I made a mistake by upgrading because 10.3 was faster and better. Maybe 11.0 was okay, but it is possible that my mistake was to choose KDE 4.0 instead of 3.5.
Anyway, there must be plenty of people now using the 11.1 who could share the experience.
So, should I stick with 11.0 or upgrade, and what version (of KDE/Gnome).
Thanks,
Marc

You can install both kde 3.5 and kde 4.0.

Hi,

I have just upgraded to SUSE 11.1 RC1 from SUSE 11.0
I have to say that everything goes well and the system rebooted into the new version without problems but, after rebooting it next time, there was error saying that there is no disk with the right boot system inserted. I had to start the repair from DVD and during the repair there were errors found in the file system as well as in the boot loader. All errors were successfully repaired but now I am facing the problem with VISTA, which is not shown in the repaired grub boot loader. I am going to try to find out where the problem lies.

Hi,
Do you maybe have a computer with extra hard drive through USB?
Many HP pavillions have this nowadays ("personal media drive")
Before installing opensuse, I take out this drive, and i put it back after the installation is finished.
Then, everything works fine.
In the past I suffered many problems because of this "media drive"; after the install, the system could not boot, did not find boot sector or grub,....
Maybe this is the cause.

Hi,
I could not resolve the problem and had to reinstall SUSE11.1 RC1 again. Now it is working, but I have problems with monitor/screen which I described in my thread here. I can not find a solution for that now. I am waiting for the final SUSE 11.1 and will try to reinstall the system then.

I like 11.0 quite a bit. I tried KDE4 at first, it was too unstable at that time, so I stuck with KDE3.5 on my 11.0 boxes and was otherwise very very pleased with it. I installed 11.1 RC1 in a Virtual Machine a few days ago and KDE4 is much better now than it was(is?) in 11.0. From what I've seen in RC1, I would recommend upgrading to 11.1 for desktop use as stable KDE4 is very nice.

I have been using the factory version of KDE4 in OpenSuse 11, and I presume that 11.1 will follow closely to that. I have found that version of KDE4 to be much more polished, and it feels faster than the KDE4 shipped with 11.0. I have been using the latest kwin desktop effects and they seem much more stable than compiz on gnome. At least that has been my experience.
