OpenSuse 11.1: KDE will not start after NVIDIA driver install
Hi.
I am running OpenSuse 11.1 64 KDE on a pc and I tried to install the Nvidia graphics driver for my card. I followed the instructions on the appropriate web page. Up to this point I could log out and back in again without problem. Apparently the installation was not complete. I got the instruction to type "nvidia-config" under su privilage. I did. Then when I logged out the restart would not lead me to a console log in and the KDE would not start. I tried using the backed xorg.conf but it did not work. Looked thru posts with similar problems - but no joy. I would like to restore my previous settings and start using KDE again. How can this be done? Any other suggestions apart from reinstalling suse from scratch? Thanks. -- |

Thanks Bruce. This worked in restoring KDE at login.
There one glitch which has appeared in this fix. I am trying to run an application which is supposed to open a new X window (and worked ok before my attempt @ installing the nvidia driver) which fails now and gives the following guff: Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". Err: Display does not support OpenGL (i.e. X-Server does not have GLX extension). Any ideas on this? Thanks again. -- |
