open SuSE 9.3 Logout from an opened file
 

Hello Moderators, readers, contributors,
A simple question, I think: I have opened a file, e.g., the file xorg.conf at the following path, while I'm working in an interrupted boot sequence window (black background with white lettering)---->linux:/etc/X11/xorg.conf

I have a flashing cursor on the left hand window margin of the boot sequence window and want to return to the /root so I can logout easily. What are the way(s) to accomplish this task without resorting to CTRL+ALT+DEL? So far this is the only way I've found to close out my session on the Linux SUSE 9.3 boot sequence.

I don't quite follow. From the prompt, you can logout without needing to move back /root. Simply type "logout" or "exit" to return to you to text-based login prompt. If you mean switch back to the graphical enviornment, pressing Alt-F7 should bring you the graphical screen that may be what you are talking about having interrupted during boot.

Currently I'm working on another thread with a stalled boot to completion. Being stuck in the black boot sequence window with the white text, RedShirt and I are trying to edit one or more files to correct the stalled boot and return to the GUI.
In doing this project (not completed) I need daily to return to some type of command prompt that will accept the logout/exit command. But when the org.conf file is open, there is no obvious command prompt since I'm in the "edit" mode. I need to use the flashing cursor along the left hand margin of the open window to exit out of the file and return to the familiar command prompt.

Is this possible? Exit from edit and return to a central command prompt?
