I just installed SuSE 9.3 overtop of a Fedora Core 2 install. I was setting everything up the way i like it, updated the system, noticed the sound didn't work and decided to wait till later to fix it, and started up YOU (the Yast updater) to install the nVidia driver.
All was well, until i eventually decided to reboot after futzing around with the sound.
Since that reboot, i have yet to make it into KDE. Upon booting, I am dropped into a grey login screen and a small box in the corner with messages... i'll type them here:
Quote:
'NVIDIA' taints kernel.
May 13 02:24:17 siplus-desktop kernel: NVRM: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 NVIDIA Kernel Module 1.0-7167 Fri Feb 25 09:08:22
May 13 02:24:30 siplus-desktop kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
|
*note, the screen was slightly offset, so i might have been missing a '/' before that dev, but i'm not sure
Having this problem before in Fedora Core, I just tried to change 'nvidia' back to 'nv' in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but that didn't work either
Then i used the Yast backup config, rebooted, and it threw an nVdia splash screen at me, but then back to the grey screen and to the same nVidia taint message.
Also, if anyone has an insight into a sound problem (Two sound cards available: VIA and SB Live 24-bit), feel free to spill some words of advice on that too.
Right now i just want to be able to login
