No sound IBM Thinkpad T30...SLICK

I decided to run SLICK on my T30, after I finally got that thing to partition, the install was a breeze, and SLICK runs so fast it is unbelievable.

I haven't really started looking into it yet, as I am in the middle of updates still(KDE 3.5, newer kernel, lots of software, etc.) but as soon as I am done updating I will want sound. I looked in the also mixer, and it is showing Intel drivers, which I assume to be right, moved all bars to 100%, and still nothing.

Anyone got any quick checks for what may be wrong getting no sound before I really go digging? If you need me to check anything or post lspci or anything, I will do that when I get home.

What does YaST report? Also make sure PCM and Master volumes are both above 0%.

Try sound logged in as root, to get rid of any possibility of it being a permissions deal.

What does YaST say about your card?

I should probably have updated this. I got sound after I upgraded to KDE 3.5 and finished all my installing/updating. So I don't know what the problem was, but I am betting on dependency issue that went away when I finished the install/update process. It seems quiet even with max volume in the mixer, so maybe I need to toy around with output things.

I can't remember but does your T30 have the sound buttons on the Laptop?
If it does..they seem to work independently from the OS.
i.e if you adjust down using these buttons then you will get low or no sound no matter what your software like KMix tells you.

Yes, you are right about that, but I have already noticed that and put that, and the kmix or alsa mixer, which ever I am using, on full.

I noticed that sound seems about 75% of what it can be in Windows. And even in Windows it wasn't that great. You wouldn't happen to know if different mixers have a different volume level range or anything?

Nope
once you set PCM sound to nearly 100% that's about as far as I know.
Mine is the same...about 75% volume level compared to Windows.
