Newbie Needs SuSe Advice Please

Hello everybody,

I am new to Linux and would be very grateful if anybody could answer these questions for me:

a) I have a laptop with 1.5 ghz processor and 256mb of ram; how well would suse 10.01 run on this spec?

b) how easy is it for a newbie to install the missing multimedia codecs (mp3, meg movies, etc).

Thanks very much in advance for any advice; cheers...

Hi

20Gb HD??

a) It should work, although the memory is a bit tight.
b) Although it is a pain, have a look at the "sticky" thread at the top of the group page. It works very well.

You haven't indicated make, model etc. of the laptop. I'd advise you to check compatibility at:

I would strongly recommend you DON't install 10.1.

There are major problems with the Xen updater module. If you DO install it be sure to have it online (LAN) during the install and accept the option to do the on-line update after the install finishes.

I switched to SuSE Enterprise Desktop 10 and it's worth the $50.00 a year if you want to keep the updates coming. It's free and the updates work for 90 days. After that if you want to continue to get Novell updates automatically, buy it.... It's the best $50.00 I spend all year..... Ok, perhaps the Beer Fund is a bit more important...
