Newbie intel 536ep Question
 

Hey,
Installed SUSE 10.1 last night and it installed great found my soundcard and video card and installed them with me even having to click a button.

Its working great, only I can't figure out how to install the modem drivers.

The drivers i had were for the wrong kernel.
The modem is a Intel 536ep.
I downloaded the latest drivers from the Intel website.
followed the instructions, but when i get to the "make 536" commend i get the following error

"current running kernel, 2.6.1613-4-default
/lib/modules... autoconf.h does not exist
please install kernel source"

I am new to Linux and have no idea what this means.
Do i need to get drivers for 10.1? I can't find anything

Can anyone please help?
(really don't want to have to give up and install windows again!)

Install Kernel Sources with YaST/Software Management
 

It is possible that you do not have the kernel Source file installed. Start YaST, Pick Software on the Left and then Software Management on the right. After your installation sources are loaded, search for kernel. You should find your kernel that is installed checked and below it will be a kernel source file. Check the kernel source file to be installed and accept the entry. After the source file is installed, you should be able to install your modem driver.

In this forum, there is information about adding in installation sources for SuSE 10.1 if you have not done so already. Normally, after a typical install, the only source you have is your CDROM drive you loaded SuSE from. If you register your installation, "suse_register" from a terminal session, you get one update source. From there you can enter online installation sources to take the place of your CD's, which keeps you from swapping disks, and other sources like packman, to add multimedia support.

If your Suse is on dvd, in the YaST Software Management there should be a ltmodem driver on the dvd Source, I think this may solve your problem
