for a long time ago, bitpicker
advised me on how to fix my pc that it might look and work like it is supposed to be. unfortunately, what i did today did not turn out to be working (tried the way without reinstalling linux). suse didn't start then ("wrong rescue user password" or something when i tried to rescue), so i wanted to install windows first, but it couldn't write in the boot sector. well, then i wanted to install suse first, but it said "unidentified windows-version" (the self-aborted installation) and stopped. so i had two begun installation that wouldn't work because of each other. knoppix would help me to erase everything on my hard-disc.
then i installed suse 9.1 again. the partitioned hdd looks like the following:

while installing, there was a message about "swap", that disappeared in parts of a second again. when pressing f2 while suse is starting there a things that fail: "swap signatures" and "device permissions". but i do have a swap-partition, don't i!?
i have to go out now, this whole thing took some hours more than expected. again. but is it possible to just start the computer with my w98b-cd tomorrow morning, install it on the first fat-partition and get some windows-data on the second? or won't windows recognize the linux-partition at all and everything will look like an untouched hdd?
the system has to be working from monday on - for years, if possible...
best regards

p.s.: in ms-dos started with the w98b-cd, both "deltree" and "format" would turn out not to be working. why??
edit: my printer cannot be found (which worked under my last suse-installtion until i
took the permission to print from myself...). while starting "cupsd" gets a yellow font, seems like there's something wrong, too.
