I am going to install a new IDE contoller in my Asus T2-AE1 compact box. The existing on-board controller only allows two IDE devices to be connected. When I installed Suse 10.2 the on-board controller was recognized and everything worked from the start. Is there anything I should know before I connect the new board? Perhaps a how-to.
The tecnician at the shop where I bought my computer (custom built; not off-the-shelf) advised me against Promise controllers. To find out why, I did a bit of googling. You should do likewise (research your options, that is).
Thanks for the good advice. I bought a Sunix ATA/RAID card for next to nothing. It worked the first time after plug-in, but alas I have too small a power supply to stick in the extra drive and dual layer DVD burner. I'll save it for the next box I buy.
