Netzero in Suse
 

Hello guys, I have install Suse 9.1 in my PC without problem, linux found the modem and is cofigurate but i can not connect to internet wiht Netzero, buy the way when i install the modem it have a Netzero ISP but a can't connect.
Somebody can help me,

Contact NetZero about the problem. Some ISP'ers don't do Linux.

Netzero tech support comes with a 1.95$/min charge and the only supported linux distro is Lindows/Linspire.

Somebody out there has to know how to install the netzero.deb (intended for Lindows/Linspire) file under SUSE Linux 9.2 Pro in a user directory, seeing as I have succeeded in doing it with a run-as-root option!
I mostly followed the instructions of a user who refers to themself as dadmarshall (who runs it on SUSE 9.1). I did not have to use YaST. I merely used the GUI equipped ARK program and extracted the files in netzero.deb, lumping them all in a /opt/nzclient directory, while in a session as the root user.
Now, my gripe is that I can only run Netzero (yes, it really does run under SUSE 9.2, the very netzero.deb file that you can download today) as root. I right-clicked on the desktop starter icon and found the option to run it as a different user (I had to select root as the user), so it can at least reside on my user desktop. I have to enter the root password in a box that pops up, every time I run it. Complicating matters is the evolution e-mail program, which I set up while I was still in the root session. Evolution is now causing a request for the root password every time that I start my regular user session. Evolution also will not load address books (it displays an error message instead), and freezes unexpectedly. I've been playing with permissions for the netzero and evolution directories and files, without luck at changing things for the better (netzero still needs the root password to start in my user directory, and evolution won't run right).

try either chmoding that directory 0777, or chowning it to the user you use. you might also need to chmod the modem device.

You can convert the .deb file to an rpm with alien.

Usage:

I already ended up using sudo to run netzero from my user directory. There's stuff about it in other threads on this site. Thanks.
The alien option sounds interesting, probably saves time so I'll try it, later.
