NDISWrapper + Suse 9.2
Is it possible? A while back, I tried it and got an error while trying to make NDISwrapper. In Mandrake, I had no such problem. But I like SuSE more...
Can NDIS be used for wireless PCI network cards in SuSE 9.2? If so, can someone be willing to help me through the setup? |
This Suse/ndsiwrapper site looks like it might very helpful. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Yeah, first you gotta install ndiswrapper from yast.
Then you need to google and fine the windows driver for your lan card. in my case it was a Trendnet driver. My driver came in a larger package. I unziped it, found the windowsXP. I then opened up konsole. typed su to take me to root. typed my password. I typed in this: ndiswrapper -i TNET1130.INF Where tnet1130.inf is the location of my driver. ndiswrapper -l will list the drivers installed and you can check to make sure it's properly installed. then you type modprobe ndiswrapper to make it active. then you have to take down your ethernet. ifdown eth0 then dhcpcd wlan0 will find an ip address for you then ifup wlan0 will make your wireless card the means suse uses to get the net. |
Thanks alot for the help guys. Also, if I did the things you said, how would I also setup a WEP code?

I believe that step 16 in the suse/ndiswrapper howto covers how to step up the wep
|
Well, everything I needed to install is done. But now when I try to install the .inf for the driver, I get "bcmwl5 invalid driver!"
And it is the correct driver as I was usuing it in Mandrake. Any ideas? |

Glad someone likes my site (nextgen.no-ip.org). :)
As far as your driver goes, Azigor, did you use the driver off the CD, or off their website? From the looks of it, you're using a Broadcom chipset, and those are kind of flaky. Try using the driver off of your CD. And what is your card, anyways? ~~ Andrew D. andrewd18@gmail.com http://nextgen.no-ip.org |
It is broadcom. I used the driver off the disk that came with it.
It's a Linksys WMP54GS. |
Azigor:
ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/WMP54GS_20040423.exe Use that driver, it's been listed as working with your card. Good luck! :) ~~ Andrew D. andrewd18@gmail.com |
