MythTV Backend

I did things in this order:

Code:
# ln -s /bin/mythbackend /etc/init.d/rc5.d/mythbackend
and

Code:
# /etc/init.d/mythbackend start
and

Code:
YaST --> System --. System Services (Runlevel)
The system tells me that the mythbackend is running at startup. And infact I see done during the startup phase with regard to mythbackend. However, when I run mythfrontend (from the icon or the console), when I select Watch TV it asks whether the backend is running. I then have to manually run the backend from a console for Myth to work. Why is it not starting as the System Services suggests?

And the Expert Mode tells me that it is "running" in init/runlevels 3 and 5.

I believe it might have something to do with how Myth is configured. I would run "mythtv-setup" and see what IP address you have setup for the backend. Check other settings as well. Also check your myth logs.

The IP address is set as localhost. I should have mentioned that I can run mythbackend from a console and then run mythfrontend and everything works. I was trying to run away from opening a console and manually starting mythbackend everytime I want to use Myth.

check your syslogs and see what the mythtvbackend is doing on boot. if it won't start there oughta be an error. maybe the mythtv user isn't setup correctly, that's another possibility.
