My openSUSE 10.2 freezes after initial reboot when installing

I am very new to the linux expierence, it seems like something one can enjoy if you want something else in your operating system, but so far i just had bad luck.

I tried to instal ubuntu 6.06 and 7.04 but both times the system froze before i could even get into the gnome enviroment, and it was not the install cds thats corupted because my friend used the same cds and his worked fine both times.

I also tried openSUSE 10.2, the same thing happend thre aswell, installation goes smoothe but when it has to finilize the installation the system freezes after the initial reboot.

when i run the installation in safe mode the following appears:

Enabling syn flood protection
Disabling IP forwarding
Creating /var/log/boot.msg
System Boot Control: The ssystem has been setup
Skipped features:boot.sched
System Boot Control: Running /etc/init.d/boot.local
Starting syslog services
enabling Hotplug
Coldplug scanning input:
INIT: Entering runlevel 3***
INIT: Id "1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: Id "2" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: Id "3" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: Id "4" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: Id "5" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: Id "6" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel

I found a post on the following website with someone having the same problem, but I have no idea what to do with the code givin in the reply!!
http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/in...showtopic=3609

the same for the following link, i dont know what to do with the last post where he said "I pulled the NIC and did the install to completion"
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=389418

I tried everythin i can, but my knowledge of linux is just to ellemntary!!!!!

I have a celeron 2.4 proccesor
2x80 gig hard drives, but only one is usesed for the operating systems, which is xp pro and hopefully opensuse soon
i have 256 and 512 mb ram installed
i have a radeon 9250 128 mb ram graphics card
